Artemisia afra

Artemisia afra is a soft aromatic perennial plant from South Africa that has been used for centuries in traditional medicine. Grown in our certified Artemisia R&D Organic Nursery, we carefully select and handpick the freshest leaves to produce within hours an extract of unparalleled purity and quality which is infused in our cream. Manufactured in our facilities, artekrem® is handcrafted in small batches to maintain authenticity and strength.

Over the past few years, Artemisia species have gained huge research interest due to their chemical composition and biological activities. Of particular importance is the increased interest in the application of these species within cosmetic products.

List of traditional uses range from cough ailments, colds, fever, colic, headache, intestinal treatments and topical cream treatments for osteoarthritis.

Sunflower Oil

Sunflower oil contains skin-enhancing ingredients such as potassium, vitamins B and E, and omega-6 fatty acids. Sunflower oil has been proven safe for all skin types. Used as our “carrier oil”, it protects and restores combinations of skins and is ideal for complexions that do not require intensive nourishment.

Pure Beeswax

Pure Beeswax contains vitamin A, which helps protect the skin from UV radiation and improves the healing of wounds, and is traditionally used as pain, inflammation and itch relief. Beeswax has non-allergenic properties that can make it useful in protecting the skin from airborne allergens. It also provides anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities.

Distilled Water

FDA’s Guidance on Cosmetic Manufacturing practice Guidelines places heavy emphasis on the quality of water used for topical creams. Our ‘in house’ distilled water is used due to its exceptional purity. A useful solvent like distilled water helps effectively dissolve all the significant ingredients compromising any cosmetic product. During our distillation process, the water tends to absorb CO2 from the air, resulting in a slightly lower pH value, making it compatible with skin’s natural pH level.
